New Balance ULTRA Tour of the Peak District – 26th August
The ULTRA tour of the Peak District is a qualifying race for The North Face Ultra-trail du Mont Blanc Races - 2 points.
Race Overview - Ultra
The information contained in this document is essential event information.
The individual event will hold four categories – Senior Male, Senior Female, Veteran Male and Veteran Female.
56.5 miles (aprox) 2722 metres of ascent
The Peak ultra is a brand new race event which covers some of the most beautiful and challenging scenery in the UK. At around 91km (56.5 miles) the route takes in some of the finest trails and climbs in the Peak District. The route has roughly 2722 metres of ascent and whilst there are no monster climbs the continued hilly nature of the course earmarks this race as a tough one to complete.
The Route
The route has been chosen because of its stunning scenery and the tough nature of the route. Whilst most of the route is on good tracks and Public Rights of Way it also crosses some inhospitable terrain where good navigation skills will be needed.
Whilst developing the race we have worked closely with local landowners and the Peak District National Park Authority to ensure that the race is sustainable and avoids sensitive areas. For this reason there are some strict route restrictions in place on some areas of the race. Please follow these wherever indicated.
The route will be marked in some areas but for 95% of the time navigation will be necessary. Sport ident dibbing stations will be in place along the route – each of these must be visited (along with aid stations), failure to do so will mean disqualification from the race.
The race will be part of a festival of running to be held at Whirlow Hall Farm Trust in Sheffield (camping available). As well as the Ultra there will be several other races starting and finishing over the weekend.
Please note that strict cut off times will be in place at each Support Station.

Navigation and the route
Whilst developing the race we have worked closely with local landowners and the Peak District National Park Authority to ensure that the race is sustainable and avoids sensitive areas. For this reason there are some strict route restrictions in place on some areas of the race. Please follow these wherever indicated.
The route will be marked in some areas but for 95% of the time navigation will be necessary. Sport ident dibbing stations will be in place along the route – each of these must be visited (along with aid stations), failure to do so will mean disqualification from the race.
Each person should be able to navigate, potentially at night, in poor conditions and in hostile weather. Please ensure you are well practiced!
The full route will be posted on the website prior to the race along with all checkpoints and Support Stations.
